Linda Fuller, a book club member, will be leading a discussion on A Long Way Gone, by Ishmael Beah. She has a wide perspective on child soldiers. She lived in West Africa in 2002 and currently has a book on African woman at the press.
A Long Way Gone is a book about Ishmael Beah, now twenty-five years old, who tells a riveting story: at the age of twelve, he fled attacking rebels and wandered a land rendered unrecognizable by violence. By thirteen, he’d been picked up by the government army, and Beah, at heart a gentle boy, found that he was capable of truly terrible acts. This is a rare and mesmerizing account, told with real literary force and heartbreaking honesty.
